It is always exciting to get inspiration from designers and consumers alike. Direct feedback in such a creative manner makes it possible to acknowledge or confirm trends and tendencies way ahead in time.

Which prizes can you win?

The best designs will be awarded monetary prizes.
  • First prize: € 2,000
  • Second prize: € 1,000
  • Third prize: € 500

However, the actual prize for the winner of the contest is that this person’s great design will be printed on no less than one million SPAR shopping bags! These bags will be available in all 650 SPAR and EUROSPAR supermarkets as well as in every one of the 52 INTERSPAR hypermarkets all over Austria.


Additionally, those designs that were rated best by the community will be rewarded with non-cash prizes.

We also want to reward the most active community members for their commitment to the SPAR Bag Design Contest.

If the winners in these two categories come from Austria then the non-cash prizes will be handed out to them in the form of SPAR or INTERSPAR vouchers. SPAR reserves the right to select adequate non-cash prizes for winners from other countries.

How are the winners determined?

The winners in the main category are selected by a jury of high-profile experts from the fields of retail and design as well as renowned personalities.


This jury applies the following criteria: the design should fit with SPAR and deliver an imaginative interpretation of the contest topic. In addition, the design should be easily feasible and attention-catching when presented at the point of sale. We are looking for creative, zeitgeisty designs that can also appeal to an international audience.


The community winners are determined by analyzing the average rating in terms of evaluations and comments which their designs received. The most active community members are those that made the most comments and evaluations of designs submitted by other members.


Which role does the evaluation by the community members play?

All community members of SPAR Bag Design Contest contribute with their evaluations and comments to determine the community-winners, i.e. the three outstanding designs favored by the community members. More importantly, by evaluating and commenting all community members raise the likelihood to win valuable prizes themselves! The more actively you get involved with the contest, the better your chances to become one of the three most active community members and to receive non-cash prizes totaling €800.


What is the Activity Counter and how is it determined?

The Activity Counter shows how actively involved you are with the contest. By submitting your designs, evaluating and commenting on other designs, or inviting your friends to participate in the contest you earn activity points. Basically everything you do in relation with the contest raises your Activity Counter!



What is the topic of the SPAR Bag Design Contest?

SPAR Bag Design Contest aims on encouraging professional and amateur designers to submit creative and original designs for shopping bag imprints. The submitted designs should reflect the topic of the fascinating world of SPAR. Express what makes SPAR so special in your eyes and submit designs that match SPAR perfectly. The more originally you interpret the “fascinating world of SPAR”, the better! SPAR clearly represents the fascinating world of food as impressively expressed by the vast assortment in all SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR stores. SPAR’s private labels form an integral part of this world. They exemplify SPAR’s high standards in terms of superior quality and fair prices. What is the aim of the contest?

The aim of the SPAR Bag Design Contest is to leverage highly-creative designs for shopping bag imprints. There are no limits to your creativity! Show your skills in interpreting the topic of the contest in the most stunning manner. Seize the chance to have your own design printed on no less than one million shopping bags that will be omnipresent all over Austria!



How does the contest work?

You have the opportunity to submit freely-created designs or create your own designs with the help of our online configurator.

During the contest all users who join the contest community can vote for their favorite designs and comment on them. The best designs will be selected by a jury and awarded prizes totaling € 3500.

Additionally, the three most-successful designs within the community as well as the three most active community members receive non-cash prizes amounting to €1600 all in all.

The contest ends the 31st of July 2009.The winners in all three categories will be announced mid-August 2009.
